History of the Facility

The National Central Youth Friendship Center was established to commemorate the 1959 marriage of the Crown Prince (the current Emperor Emeritus) and to promote the healthy development of youth through group residential training.
National Bandai Youth Friendship Center opened in May 1966 as the third facility of the National Youth Houses.
Located on the southern slope of Mt. Bandai within Bandai-Asahi National Park, our facility serves as a premier youth education center surrounded by rich natural scenery, including Lake Inawashiro and the numerous lakes of Urabandai. Throughout the year, many young people from the Kanto and Tohoku regions, as well as within Fukushima Prefecture, visit to engage in nature activities, sports, and training programs.
 
Dec. 1964Inawashiro Town, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture, was officially selected as the site for the new facility.
May. 1966Opening Ceremony held for the National Bandai Youth House.
Aug. 1968Visit by Their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess (the current Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita).
May. 1970Visit by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress (Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun).
Apr. 2001Transitioned to the "National Bandai Youth House, National Youth Houses" following its reorganization as an Independent Administrative Institution.
Apr. 2006Following the merger of independent administrative institutions, the National Institution for Youth Education (NIYE) was established, and the facility was renamed as the "National Bandai Youth Friendship Center, National Institution for Youth Education."

※The 50th Anniversary Ceremony was held on May 8, 2016, to celebrate five decades of the facility's history.
※It has exceeded 5 million total hotel guests.
